🍺 Goodbye Growlers to Go-Go.
- Madison's first growler bar announced this week their plans to close. In a Facebook post, Growlers to Go-Go said their last day will be Feb. 26.
- "We do plan on going out with a bang and will fill the next 30 days with great beer to try and a final Going Away Party weekend before we close. So please take this time to stop in and raise a glass to 6 great years," they wrote. "We're going to miss all of you."
🥘 Swagat is branching out.
- The owner of the west-side Indian restaurant recently opened a new location in Sun Prairie. While the menu still features homestyle clay oven cooking and classic curries, the restaurant itself stands out from other area Indian spots.
- The new spot is located at 298 S. Grand Ave. and marks Swagat’s first venture beyond Madison, according to Cap Times. The new restaurant puts a focus on finer dining and using local ingredients in its dishes.
☃️ Have some fun in the snow.
- Whether you like it or not, there's finally some snow on the ground — let's enjoy it while it lasts! Here are some ideas for getting outside this winter from our winter fun guide.
- Strap on some skis. The city’s cross-country trails — when there’s snow — are groomed weekly at Cherokee Marsh South, Owen, Turville Point, and Yahara Hills. There’s also cross-country opportunities at Blackhawk Ski Club and CXC Outdoor Center, both in Middleton. And, of course, skiing and tubing at Tyrol Basin.
- Ice skate. Though the city has 19 ice rinks/lagoons (all are free to use, with no reservation required), only a handful are open as of mid-January, so check in advance. Rentals are available ($6/hr), plus concession stands. The Edgewater’s ice rink is also open to the public. One-hour tickets are $7 and skate rentals are $3.
- Go snowshoeing. If the white stuff falls, snowshoe on the marked trails at Indian Lake County Park, Door Creek Park, and Yahara Hills, to name a few — frozen creeks are fun, too. Rent snowshoes at the Wisconsin Union ($8/hr if you stay on Lake Mendota); the City of Madison rents out snowshoes at Vilas and Elver parks Wednesday through Sunday ($5/hr).

📵 UW System will ban the use of TikTok on its devices.
- Following a similar move by the state, the University of Wisconsin System officials said they will ban the use of TikTok on system devices.
- The UW System employs roughly 40,000 faculty and staff around the state. UW-Madison has multiple TikTok accounts but content from the main account has all been removed.
✨ Your lunchtime read: Earthly Temptation and Moore Books n Mugs fills a need in Madison’s Black community.
- Via Cap Times: "When Sarah Branch started her business, Earthly Temptation, in 2020, she wanted to sell natural products that would provide healing and restoration to her clients. Throughout her life, she has struggled with depression and self-esteem, and wanted to give Madison’s Black community a space to access body care and holistic healing products specifically for them.
'I knew I had to open the store as I began my journey of healing,' Branch said. 'I was buying crystals and such online, or I was going into some of the stores around Madison. And I just didn't really feel welcome. I knew that I needed to create a space for us.'"
